Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania

Event Concept & Production

About the Project

Over the weekend, around 50 young second-generation CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) leaders came together for the Feast of Faith Retreat, a first-of-its-kind gathering within the Uniting Church.

The retreat created a safe and enriching space for young leaders to share stories, reflect on their identity, and engage in open conversations about the unique experiences of growing up between two cultures, their parents’ heritage and the country they now call home.
The program was filled with singing, connecting, laughter, deep reflection, table discussions, and a strong sense of belonging. Participants explored themes of faith, leadership, identity, and hope, not only for the future, but for the here and now.

This retreat marked a significant moment for second-generation CALD young people, and it’s clear this is just the beginning.

The Challenge

As the retreat focused on such personal and emotional themes, the challenge was to capture the weekend in a way that felt authentic, respectful, and true to the spirit of the event.

The goal was to create a visual library that could be utilised across future Uniting Church communications, while also producing a recap video that captured the energy, connection, and diversity of the weekend.

It was also essential to interview participants and allow their voices to shape the narrative.

The Process

I worked on collaboration with the graphic desinger while the print officer was away. , I documented the retreat through photography and video across the full weekend.

  • This included:
Capturing candid, natural moments during worship, group activities, and table discussions.
  • Conducting interviews with CALD participants, who shared honest reflections on faith, identity, and being a 2nd Gen leader.
Producing a recap video for social media that showcased the essence of the weekend.
  • Building a visual asset library for ongoing youth campaigns, such as the Youth Rally and CALD youth initiatives.

We were intentional in our visual storytelling, focusing on real people, real connection, and lived experience.

The Result

The recap video was published across Uniting Church social media and has already received over 7,000 views, helping raise visibility for CALD youth leadership.

The retreat’s photos and visual assets are now being used in wider campaigns, including the Youth Rally and other marketing pieces.
Most importantly, we helped capture and share a moment that meant so much to a community often underrepresented in church storytelling, amplifying CALD voices with honesty and care.
